Assignments Overview
Assignments in this course are designed to be flexible and inclusive, allowing you to engage with Greek and Roman tragedy in ways that align with your interests and learning styles.
First Week Engagement: Your Connection (5%)
Choose ONE of the following prompts to respond to in 300-400 words:
- Share a story from your own cultural tradition that deals with themes of tragedy.
- Describe a performance, adaptation, or retelling of a classical story that resonated with you.
- Reflect on how your own cultural background might influence how you approach these ancient texts.
Participation and Engagement (15%)
There are multiple ways to engage, including:
- Contributing to class discussions.
- Participating in small group activities.
- Submitting reading responses.
- Leading a discussion on a topic of interest.
- Digital discussion board contributions.
Critical Analysis Projects (40%)
Two major analytical projects allow you to explore tragic texts through different lenses:
- Project 1: Multiple Perspectives on a Tragic Text (15%)
- Project 2: Tragedy in Contemporary Context (25%)
Options include written essays, digital presentations, or creative adaptations.
Final Project (20%)
Instead of a final exam, you’ll complete a project demonstrating your understanding of course themes. Formats include:
- Traditional research paper.
- Comparative cultural analysis.
- Digital portfolio or interactive presentation.
- Public engagement project.
